The best approach isn't choosing one over the other โ it's using both strategically. Check your BMI first โ it takes 10 seconds and flags whether you're in a potentially concerning range. If BMI is 18.5โ24.9 AND you don't exercise much, you're likely fine. If BMI is 'overweight' (25+) but you strength train, measure body fat to see if the excess is muscle or fat. If BMI is 'normal' but you're sedentary with no muscle tone, check body fat for 'skinny fat' risk.
